Pitfall 3: Regional wealth tax

Some regions still charge wealth tax (not covered by Beckham Law)

Regional Variations

Catalonia

  • Wealth tax still applies
  • Less attractive for high-net-worth

Madrid

  • No wealth tax
  • Most favorable region

Andalusia

  • Wealth tax with high exemptions
  • Moderate attractiveness

Who Benefits Most?

Ideal Candidates:

  • Employed by Spanish company
  • Income €60k - €600k range
  • Foreign investment income
  • Living in Madrid

Less Ideal:

  • Freelancers/self-employed
  • Very low income (<€40k)
  • Spanish-only income sources

After 6 Years

Options:

  1. Stay in Spain (normal tax rates)
  2. Move to another country
  3. Plan next move before expiry

Bottom Line

Beckham Law is one of Europe's best tax incentives for employed expats. The 24% rate plus foreign income exemptions can save tens of thousands annually.
